Profile

I have a BSc Mathematics 1:1 from the University of Exeter and am particularly interested in Climate Change and its effects, studying a module on the mathematics of climate change and a final year project entitled ‘To what extent is the Paris agreement realistic in its aims for reducing global warming?’. This looked at the likelihood of meeting the target of a 2oC temperature rise set at the Paris Climate conference under various scenarios involving geoengineering. I have experience working with large datasets as an analyst in the financial sector, and in research assisting a literature review in epidemiology.

PhD title: ‘How will the urban heat island in growing cities behave under climate change?’

The urban heat island (UHI) effect is observed in most cities, where the city’s temperature is warmer than the surrounding environment. The project will explore this effect across a range of different geographies and climates in order to gain an understanding of influencing factors and how the UHI can be minimised. This can then be applied in the context of cities developing and growing under human induced climate change. Further exploration can also be made into influence of UHIs on the heat related health burden.
