Profile

I am the Doctoral Training Partnerships Manager, a mum of three, and I live with ME/CFS, FND, fibromyalgia and anxiety disorder.

I worked as a drug discovery chemist in respiratory and gastro-intestinal disease for several years but took a career break to have a family. Moving to Norwich brought me to EnvEast and ARIES, and I’ve worked at UEA with the DTPs for the last 5 years. I really enjoy working with the whole partnership and collaboration team in our DTPs and supporting all of our students to achieve their doctorates. My favourite part of the process is reading the research proposals that come in and imagining all the amazing things that ARIES students are going to discover and contribute to, and then seeing it happen as the years pass!

I’m passionate about enabling DTP students to access the myriad opportunities available to them. When I did my PhD I knew exactly what I wanted to do for my career but when I got there I found it wasn’t my dream job after all. It was all the additional training and networking I’d done outside of my research and in the early years of raising children that gave me the skills I need for my new chosen career.

I have found UEA, EnvEast, and ARIES to be extremely supportive places to work – there is a very collegiate atmosphere, and at times when I have additional needs due to my health or caring responsibilities there has never been a problem accessing the necessary support.
